Sir Charles Mendl (1871-1958).British diplomat,attache with the British Embassy in Paris,between the two world wars,especially associated with the Paris Peace Conference in 1919.He was noted and suspected of working with British Intelligence (namely by the French),and was one of the politicians calling for appeasement in the run up to WWII,at odds with Sir Winston Churchills warning to re-arm against the threat of the Third Reich.He appeared in the 1946 Hitchcock film,Notorious,as the Commodore.
