Patrick Edward Connor (1820-1891).Irish military officer,who served as a Union General,in the American Civil War (1861-65),active in several campaigns.A veteran of the Mexican-American war (1848-49),he is most notorious for his campaigns against Native Americans,most notably the 1863 Bear Rive massacre of Shoshone Indians ,near the Idaho-Utah border.His 1865 Powder River Expedition against the Sioux,Cheyenne & Arapaho Indians,was deemed a dismal failure.
