Sir Augustus Charles Gregory (1819-1905).English-born Australian explorer and pastoralist,who,along with his brothers,most notably Francis Thomas Gregory (1821-1888),undertook several major expeditions exploring the interior of the continent,such as overland,and by-river journeys,around Perth and from Brisbane to Adelaide.This was undertaken to search for pastoral lands,potential settlements,& one,a search for the ill-fated German explorer Ludwig Leichhardt.He later became a prominent surveyor.
