Constance Markievicz,Countess Markievicz,born Constance Gore-Booth (1838-1927),sister of the suffragette & poet,Eva Gore-booth.Irish politician & revolutionary nationalist.She was active within the Irish Sinn Fein & Fianna Fail parties.She took part in the 1916 Easter Uprising,but escaped at death penalty. She was the first woman elected to the UK House of Commons in 1918,but refused to take her seat in protest for Irish Home Rule,& 2nd woman in the world,elected to a cabinet position.
