Karen Carpenter (1950-1983).American singer,best known for a string of 1970's & early 80's hits alongside her brother Richard,as the duo The Carpenters,with such songs as 'Close To You','We've Only Just Begun' and 'Yesterday Once More'. She sadly died of heart failure aged just 32,brought on her much publicised battle with the slimming disease Anorexia nervosa.
